Typically on vacation I just cannot sit still for seven straight days. We knew we had one plan ( I will talk more about that on Friday) but were waiting to see what else was available when we got down there. Turns out, when we got there we really just wanted to lay around. I had heard about some great shopping in downtown Playa del Carmen and when we decided we needed a little break from the sun we ventured out there.
On Wednesday we took the cab to downtown. Funny story, it was like five minutes away. Honestly, we could have walked if we wanted. Our hotel was almost in a gated community, type thing. This was just outside of that. The shopping was a little varied. We started in this beautiful, modern area with big shops like Zara. They had a Zara Home store that I desperately wanted to check out but we go there too early. We did stumble across this adorable, little Starbucks so I had to partake.
As we continued there was this unique water feature with a fountain and real starfish! It was freakishly hot that day so I almost jumped in too.
As we kept walking along we stumbled upon more souvenir and specialty shops. I don't even know how long we walked, like I said it was crazy hot. We did pick up a few things for Reese while we were there because we wanted to bring something home for her.
After shopping we all needed a bit of a nap. We retreated to our rooms for a siesta. A couple of us hit the pool before cleaning up for dinner.
That night I sported one of my fancier dresses. I bought this dress from one of my absolute favorite boutiques Alice + Wonder out of Chicago. I actually picked this up when I went to visit my cousin in February and knew it would be perfect for Mexico. This has been taunting me in my closet every since! It does have an open back and a bit of a low front so I wore a bralette to make it work. I think it made it look like it was just part of the dress. This dress was perfecet because it has these wonderful elements of flow and flutter while remaining structured with clean lines. How does one dress achieve these opposite things? The gold, metallic polka dots take this dress to another level for me. It is definitely a dress that needs almost nothing. For a nice dinner I simply added the necklace i got in my Box of Style. It was just enough sparkle to blend in without distracting attention from this dress. I did wear my absolute favorite block heels. I wore these basically every night. A full stiletto heel felt too formal for Mexico, however back in the States I have a perfect nude heel that is begging to be worn with this.
