NYE + #H54F Last one of 2016!

Happy last Friday of 2016! I cannot believe the year is coming to a close already, at the same time it's been a rough one right? Here's hoping to a positive 2017! In the meantime one last week of H54!

On Monday our Christmas festivities continued. My mother's side is a big family so a few years ago we started celebrating Christmas on a different day. Typically it's the weekend after Christmas but given that  Christmas was on a weekend we did it Monday. I love my family, but I was so tired. We stayed for about 2 hours before peaceing out.

I worked all week but because I work for a school and they are closed I got to work from home most days, which ain't bad. Downside is I had to go in a couple of days for some meetings so I didn't get as much done as I would have liked. However, it is pretty chill for the week after Christmas

On Wednesday I met up with with a local fashion lady I met doing the Innovations MN fashion event last month. Her name is Sara (@ladydextergoesrogue) and we connected over fashion and both being therapists. We decided to meet up this week at, apparently local hot spot, Spyhouse Coffee. I was a little late, cause I can never get it together on time, and she was gracious to wait. She was absolutely lovely! We talked about local fashion, blogging, our professions and family.  I love getting to meet other cool local people and I am so glad I got to know her better.

So the dogs love when I am home. Particularly Riggs who loves every cuddle moment he can get. When I am working it is frustrating for him that my computer is on my lap and not him. I promised him cuddles one day but then ran behind and later we saw a movie. On Thursday, I had time to sit with him on the couch and he soaked it all in.

This year we are celebrating again with some of our closest friends. They have hosted for the last few years and never disappoint. Last year they had a 1920s prohibition theme so we all dressed up in our speakeasy best. The year before was a more straightforward cocktail theme. This year is another fun theme, but you will have to follow along (@mymonochromaticlife) or stop by on Monday to see.

If you haven't picked up your look I pulled together a few options for you. For those sparkly girls Express is a great go-to. They love a sequin dress there and there is no shame in there NYE game. Plus you can usually get it for a reasonable price. For those of you less sequin-included you can go more metallic in a mini, or embrace the other trend this year of velvet. Either these options from Nordstrom would be perfect for a night out on the town. These don't strike your fancy? Mix it up with a hot jumpsuit, cause nothing s wrong with a jumpsuit, or these BB Dakota cropped, lace number. Either of which might be a bit more unexpected. If dresses are not your style you can pair a fun top with some great leggings. I like to use NYE as an excuse for all things sequin and this Free People top would pair so well with these leather leggings. After pregnancy, I want to get a pair of leather leggings again. They are a great way to amp up a look. What do you think?

Prep Maternity Style

Seems like I get bigger by the minute. I can't tell at this point if this is after holiday weight or pregnancy. Probably a bit of both. I am glad I bought a few forgiving items to help this with this time. ASOS has become my go-to for maternity wear. All their maternity apparel is super chic and totally affordable. Every once in a while I like to flirt with preppy part of my personality. This little collared top is the perfect pairing for that. Only downside is the bottom is a bit transparent so be sure to get a nude tank to wear underneath if your pants are not 'over the bump' style. I paired it with Madewell maternity denim. I love these for a sleek look without using leggings. I kept the accessories simple with the oxford shoes, watch and handbag. If you wanted to dress it up you could add a statement necklace under the collar and an ankle bootie.

Monday Round Up: Christmas Round Up

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a merry and fun Christmas holiday with your family or friends. My weekend was full of time with families and was incredibly busy. There was a lot so just a quick recap.

Christmas Eve began by desperately trying to get myself out of bed. We planned to go to the gym because we knew we would be eating ourselves into oblivion for the next two days. It was really hard with these little pups being as adorable as they were.

Saturday early afternoon we went to D's parent's house. They have a 'open door' policy on Christmas Eve where anyone can come. His immediately family is there along with his grandmother and grandfather. D's mom bakes the best cookies and makes her famous two soups: potato and wild rice. So good. After we ran back to our house to do some gift opening with my immediate family. We put Eva in her little Christmas sweater , which she hated. We opened gifts and my little niece was super cute opening hers. She repeats everything now so when my sister was helping her open she would say "what could it be?" and my niece would repeat in the sweetest, softest voice. So cute. After we headed to my Uncle's house to do a little more celebrating and gift opening before heading home.

Two of my favorite gifts

Oh and I feel enormous now, 32 weeks

Sunday morning we headed up to D's parent's early to do brunch and gifts with them. There are now six kids on that side so things get a little nuts. It's fun to watch the kids open and get super excited about things. You remember when you were a kid doing the same thing and Christmas was magical. They were all super sweet and well behaved, making sure to thank everyone after. I also snapped a little selfie with my newest little niece. She was so good for two days, hardly fussing and super smiley!

After we had to head home quick to let out the pups, then back to my parent's for dinner.  I was pretty stuffed but my mom makes chinese food and it's amazing so I made room. My poor niece wasn't feeling well and got  a little fussy. We hung around for a bit to watch some holiday classics before heading home to cuddle with our pups. I put on my new Gap lounge sweater and felt like I had a holiday hangover.

Christmas day I kept my look pretty casual. I used my new Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette and Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip paint for my make up look.

I wanted to be casual Christmas Day. Christmas Eve was more fancy (I will post more on this look later.) I liked this ASOS striped tee, the stripes are a deep red so I figured it was festive. I layered with my new vest from Stitch Fix (also more on this later) to keep warm and cover my stomach. I paired with my favorite maternity jeans. They fit almost like a legging so are super comfortable. I added a little holiday cheer with this statement necklace and my red Kate Spade. I also have some red/brown ankle boots from Target that match the stripes almost perfectly. I was comfortable (well as comfortable as you are at 32 weeks) all day.

Christmas Looks + #H54F

Happy Friday!!! I have not been this excited for a Friday in a while. Not only is it the Friday before Christmas, but it is the end to a long week and looking forward to an easier week ahead. I was not able to pull together a post on Wednesday due to my busy schedule so I am going to try and make up for it today. I won't bore you with my week's activities (which consisted of work, work and more work) but instead intend to dazzle you with some great looks for the holiday weekend. For my H54F I put together five looks to cover all the colors of the Christmas rainbow. Let's get to it!

This is for those of you looking for comfort this Christmas. I generally go more comfortable on Christmas day as it is historically the least formal gatherings that day. It does not mean, however, you cannot have a few style points. I found this Free People sweater and it looks like I want to live in it. Essentially like wearing a fashionable blanket. Make it in red? Done! Paired with Banana Republic skinny jeans it's pretty plain until you accessorize. I loved this fringe gold necklace and chunky bangle for a little sparkle. Top it off with this metallic shoe (who says you can't mix metals?) for a holiday surprise.
Casual Christmas

For those of less on the girl side I am always down for a blazer and blouse. I love this plaid top from J. Crew. Covers all the warm colors of Christmas and pairs perfectly with the burgundy corduroy pants. If you aren't about sporting the true Christmas red, burgundy is going to be your new best friend. To make it a true masculine look you need a blazer. Layering is great to pull off the masculine look and adds some fun dimension. I did add some feminine touches with sparkly earrings and bracelet but toned it down with a simple black heel. Opt for a slimmer heel to to avoid looking like you literally raided your boyfriend's closet.

Ok so I am counting this as two looks. I really could not decide between these two tops. I am obsessed with velvet right now and this lace top is so interesting I had to show case it. I like balancing the feminity of these tops with the harsher leather leggings. I love a leather legging and I think they are more versatile than you  might expect. These BCBG high ankle heels help edge out the look . These two tops  are pretty much stand outs on their own but a little sparkle to the ears and this amazing cuff are all the accessories you need.

Last but certainly not least, the dressiest of the bunch. This skirt lept out at me and I knew I had to show it to you all. Red is the common color to show Christmas but green gets left out and it can be stunning too. This high waisted, shiny skirt is made to be seen. Due to the skirt being the show stopper piece, I kept the top relatively simple and elegant. A few small, but sparkly jewels and these ballerina looking d'orsay heels. You have to wear a skirt to show off the delicate wrap around detail.

There you have it. I think, if I weren't pregnant, I would choose the leather Christmas as my option. I love the combination of a rock n' roll pant with ladylike top. Plus those BCBG heels are killer. What is your favorite? How do you dress for Christmas?

Monday Round Up: Holidays + Casual Days

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend. I had a very busy and cold weekend. Hope yours was just as fun as mine, but warmer. Definitely warmer.

Friday the snowstorm began. There was talk that there was supposed to be 6-12 inches of snow. When I left work there was not as much as I thought so I hit the gym quick before I went home. We spent the night in. D was making a cheesecake for a holiday party the next day. I promptly got in comfortable clothes and we watched Christmas movies and cuddled with our adorable pups.

Saturday was a packed day. I got up, did a little work out and headed out. We did not get as much snow as they predicted but easily got about 5 inches. It was also freezing and the temperature was going to keep dropping. The roads were pretty slick so I took our truck and used 4 wheel drive, which was a life saver. I got my hair done and was so happy. Getting my hair done is easily in my top 5 favorite things to do. I am getting blonder, just a bit more to go. Afterwards I bought the remainder of our Christmas presents and had to dash home.

That night we had our annual friend holiday party. We have been doing this for several years now and although there is typically the usual suspects, we have a revolving door of other folks. We get together, have a nice dinner (ham, delicious) and play a present trading game. Our friends who host always do a wonderful job and I look forward to it every year. I got tired a little earlier this year, partly from pregnancy and the other part from not being able to drink. It helped to play games. Our friends had that new Speak Out game and we did not officially play but a few people tried it out and it was legit hilarious.

Sunday was my niece's second birthday. I can't believe is she two years old already. She is the funniest kid ever. Every time you ask her if she wants to do something it is a succint "yea." She loves clothes, dolls, Nemo and Princess Sophia. Oh and popsicles. She is so dang cute I can't take it. It was fun celebrating with her on Sunday and watching her interact with everyone. She really loves her mom, my sister, and my mom. They are her two favorite people. She walks up to them and says "gimme hand" and leads them around the house. She is so funny.

There is my weekend in a nutshell.

On weekends like this some casual running around wear is necessary. Also, as I grow I am always looking for ways to be comfortable and fashionable at the same time. I saw this long sleeved top and knew it would be great. It is casual enough to dress up or down. I can put a statement necklace on and wear it to work or something simpler for running errands. These are my favorite  maternity jeans right now. I ordered a size up to give me a little more flexibility. They feel stretchy like a legging, but secure and hold their shape. Top if off with this anorak jacket, beanie and cross body bag and you are ready for some Christmas shopping. Full disclosure I took this before the big snowstorm so the jacket may be too cool for the weather. However, you can absolutely pair with a long sweater vest or giant blanket scarf to make it winter worthy.
