Black + White Stripes

This past weekend if you read my Monday post, you know I hit up a rock concert. Typically for a concert, I like to go with mostly black and some edgy details. However, I was going to a concert pretty far outside the cities and in an old-fashioned ballroom. I was not sure exactly what to think or to dress. I decided to keep it simple but with an edge. I found this top at Target as part of their Who What Wear collection. I really love this line. It is always classic but with fun patterns and silhouettes. Also, cause it's Target it is super budget friendly.

Monday Round Up: Concerts, Dinners + Tassels

I'm back! Sorry for not posting in a week, life has gotten totally nuts. I know I have said it before but I have been swamped with work, mostly. That and taking care of Reese and salvaging my personal life, something had to give. I always want to make sure the content I put out is worthy of your time in reading it. I never want to put out rushed posts and only want to give you all the best!  From time to time as I work out the new challenges of my life I may miss a day here and there, but I'll be back and I hope you'll join me! That said, Happy Monday!

This was a really busy weekend. I had something going on every day, but it was all so fun! Friday I met my dad, one of his good friend's and his daughter (who happens to be married to my cousin) for a concert. My dad and I go to lots of concerts together. Typically we go to see more modern bands we both like. This time he was already planning to go see Cinderella, an old 80s rock band, with them and asked if I wanted to tag along. I like rock but I don't listen to a lot of old stuff. However, I thought it might be a fun experience. The concert was at this place called The Medina Ballroom and I thought it might be...interesting. I was so right. Two bands opened for them, I won't name them, but honestly, they were two steps away from terrible. One was a local rock group who looked more like a caricature of an 80s rock band. The second took themselves a bit too seriously. Thankfully there were tables so we sat through the first two bands. When Cinderella came on we got up close to the stage. It was the lead singers birthday that night, he is 57 years old. I gotta be honest, his voice was still pretty amazing. I was super impressed. You can really tell the difference between professionals at shows like this. They were just clean, efficient and a lot of fun. I wound up having a great time.

Saturday was our family's annual spaghetti dinner. My dad's side is Italian and my great grandparents were Italian immigrants, so the pasta is legit! My nonna and great aunt and my uncle make most of main course. We always have this amazing garlic bread too that I could eat for days, salad and some minor desserts. They aren't huge sugar people, which after all the pasta is totally fine. Spending time with my family is always fun and there are a few more kids running around, which makes it more of an adventure. Reese did really well and got her first taste of spaghetti and meatballs. She definitely approved.

Sunday I attended the Minneapolis Bloggers Union's first meet up. Truthfully, I was happy to be invited. So many amazing bloggers in town with greater followings than mine. Anytime I get included in something like this, I' m always metaphorically turning around looking for someone else. I also was super nervous. For someone who talks for a living, I am truly an introvert. At work, I am confident and I can give guidance and direction without a hesitation. In life, not so much. It is definitely hard for me to meet new people without someone I know by my side. I really debated not going out of anxiety. I talked with a lovely local lady in town and she encouraged me to go so I went. honestly had a great time. I met a bunch of new ladies who are killin' it blog lady style. Almost everyone had a similar story to start with but have their own unique take on this fashion blogging thing. It was held at the beautiful Brick x Mortar with some sips and treats. They talked about having speakers are future meetups and I really can't wait to go again!

Back at home with my love bug

So there is my weekend in a nutshell! I have a few looks from my weekend in the can but I thought I would start with my blogger meet up look. I found this gorgeous tassel dress from local fav Proper +  Prim . When I first saw it I thought it would be great for my upcoming trip to Mexico. When I tried it on it is a bit more lined than I thought so it definitely works for this time of year too. For a meet up I wanted to represent my brand so I think all black was definitely the way to go ;) I wanted to add some class and edge so I layered a few delicate necklaces for some shimmer without taking away from the tassel detail. I also thought this fur stol would be the perfect addition to make this feel a little more winter-esque. Throw on a pair of heels and tights and I was ready to go.

Monday Round Up: Birthdays, Playoffs + Local Fare

This post contains affiliate links. Please read my full disclaimer here.

Happy Monday! I won't lie, this was hard to say today. This weekend had some serious ups and downs, I will get into it. This is a harder Monday though. Let's start with the good stuff.

Friday after work we wanted to go see our nephew play basketball. Last week was our nephew who plays hockey and this week was our nephew who plays basketball. It was fun to watch and a different experience. I am not typically a basketball fan, but I'm a fan of my nephew. He was excited to see us and his sister was their too so I got to chat with my niece a bit. It was an earlier game so we were still able to get little miss home and off to bed. D and I continue to plow through iZombie on Netflix. Seriously, great show.

Saturday was out for my birthday with my family. We weren't able to go out on my actual birthday weekend and this was the next closest time. My sister-in-law watched Reese so D and I met up with my parents and one of my sisters. We went to dinner at Punch Bowl Social.   Food was ok but the drinks were good. It would be a good place to go with a group because they have some games and activities you can participate in too. Afterwards, we went to Wicked Wort  Brewing for a couple of beers. I really like that place. It's actually fun in the summer because it opens all up.

Sunday was the big day Vikings NFC championship. Last week they pulled out an amazing win.  I was hopeful going into the game, but also incredibly nervous. We didn't exactly crush the team last week so I was not super confident. Turns out my hesitation was well deserved. We scored one touchdown right away and then completely fell apart. I don't even know who the team was that was playing. We just could not get it together all game. They ran all over us and we could not get the ball downfield. It as incredibly disappointing for the season to end this way. It was apparent early the game we were not going to win and we just had to watch it. I'm super bummed about it today. I was a little hopeful we might actually make it to the Super Bowl, but obviously not. The good news is overall we had a great season. Until next year, SKOL!

On the plus side? This weekend I saw some of the Target collab with Askov Finlayson. These types of collabs go fast so I wanted to swipe it up. Askov Finlayson was started as a men's store in Finlayson, Minnesota. They started by featuring brands they liked and now make their own stuff. It is kind of a big deal in Minnesota. When I saw a few of the pieces online I wanted to get in on it. I picked up this burgundy sweater because I love the color and the north symbol on it. They have a bunch of cute tees like this one and I really like this tote too.If you like this, I would definitely recommend picking up some items quick!

Naked Heat Review

Happy Wednesday! Just a quick beauty post for you today to bring some heat to this winter chill. If you are sick of winter already like me this might be a great palette for you to play with. I have been wanting this for some time and I got it from my in-laws for my birthday. Good job in-laws! I was legit super pumped when I saw this.

Winter Box of Style +#H54F Link Ups

Finally Friday! Am I right? This was the first full, true week of work for me in a while and it has felt super long. It has definitely been a busy week but, honestly, truly boring to describe. Let's sum up:

1. Work
2. Work out
3. Keep baby alive.
4. Repeat.

This weekend will be more fun so stayed tuned for a supersized Monday post. In lieu of the more traditional H54F format I will be giving you all the details of my most recent Box of Style. What's that you say? You are not familiar. Well, read on sweet reader and get your own here!

We take a break from our regularly scheduled Westeros style winter for a little January heatwave. It has been pretty cold around here for a while but this week we have gotten a few warm days. I like to try and take advantage of this because it is unseasonably warm and will eventually return to the depths of tundra chill.

Monday Round Up: Birthday Jumpsuits

Happy Monday! I am coming off a great birthday weekend. A weekend, I won't lie, I did not take a lot of pictures. I tried to just be present celebrating this weekend and not caught behind my phone. So in that way, I apologize for the lack of documenting, but in another way it was fantastic. Another year has turned over both on the calendar and in my life. Another year older, hopefully wiser, and looking forward to what I hope will be another transformative year.

Friday was a work day and I knew I was going to be going out the next night so I wanted to keep it kind of chill. We made a little dinner and we watched a movie. I honestly don't even remember what we watched, haha. I think I fell asleep and it was great. I won't even lie. We went to bed about 11:00 PM and it.was.glorious.

Saturday was the big day. I had plans to go out with some friends for my birthday. I planned for a little self-care so I scheduled a manicure/pedicure. I wish I could get a pedicure all the time. They re just amazing right? The place I go is a chain, but it's clean, nice and they always do an amazing job.

I wanted to be rested and well caffeinated because we had a late dinner reservation. I had been calling places all over town for weeks to get a reservation. Either A) they did not take reservations or B) they do but could not accommodate our group size. Last weekend I thought I finally got a place that would and when I went to confirm a reservation I was told "we don't take reservations for party that size at that time of night" Umm...excuse me? It's basically impossible to go out now. By a sheer stroke of luck, we called Betty Dangers and they had a cancellation and could fit us in. HALLELUJAH! AND at the last minute, I had to add two more people and they were super accommodating. All in total there were about 20 of us so we needed a lot of space. I have some pretty great friends and some who came from long distances got babysitters and fit me into their busy schedules. I was super excited to go out and Reese was overnight at my parents so I could really whoop it up. We had dinner and then a few of my friends had to leave so we headed over to another bar until it randomly closed at midnight because "winter hours." Ugh. We made it to one last stop and shut the place down. I was so grateful for so much. For my parents who watched Reese, to my friends who drove a really long way, my friends who got sitters and the rest who just made time in their lives to celebrate with me. Y'all know how to make a gal feel special.

Sunday we woke up late, praise, and D made breakfast. Sunday was my actual birthday. I was still pretty tired just because we were up so late the night before. A nice, greasy breakfast was definitely needed. Then we got cleaned up and we picked up our girl from my parent's house. We kept the rest of the day pretty chill. Grabbed a few groceries, and headed home to relax and reboot. The Golden Globes were on and I was pretty excited to watch. The Globes are probably the most fun to watch and I leveraged my birthday standing to make D watch them with me #birthdaygirl. It was a great day.

Someone discovered she likes selfies

Ok so I was super proud of myself for my birthday look. I found this jumpsuit and it.was.everything. I really love jumpsuits. I think they are just super chic and I think I generally have a good frame for it. I just feel like it elevates the glam level immediately. When I bought it it has this big open back and knowing that my birthday is in January I would need some kind of cover. My Stitch Fix stylist is amazing and she found this blazer for me. (More details about my fix in the coming weeks). I really am obsessed with the velvet trend and this kind of mix of a cardigan and a blazer was perfection. I went all out with the earrings that I got in my Box of Style (stay tuned for that this week) and it just brings the house down with this look. I kept the rest pretty simple, some delicate necklaces and bracelets. A small, winter-inspired clutch to keep the glam all the way through to my fingertips. When I got out for my birthday I like it to make a statement and I think I accomplished that with this look.

After NYE Leather Fringe

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a fantastic and safe new year. Today I am back to the grind. Work started up again yesterday but I was still at home doing it. Today I am back in the office, not sure I am ready for it but here goes nothing!

It was a busy weekend for me, but I think it would be easier to do the full NYE weekend in review on Friday with the link up. Just too much to discuss in a Wednesday post. In the meantime, I have brought to you a little fringe and all black look, because why not?
