Monday Round Up: Warm Ups + Cool Downs

It's Monday, monday monday ladies and gents! I  must say this was a vey interesting weekend for several weeks. As always it was too short and as always makes me wish for summer to get here faster.

Friday was a pretty relaxed night. I rushed home after work because we had someone coming over to consult with on our flooring in our upstairs. We are working on renovating our house a little bit from closets, to furniture to flooring. I had planned to go to the gym but no dice that day. Unfortunately the consult did not give us a bunch of options so it was kind of a bust. In lieu of anything else productive I did an at home work out dvd. Then we went over to a friend's house for movie night. They made dinner and we brought some snacks and the movie. Our friend's house has one of those big projectors and screens so it is always fun to watch movies over there. After the movie we headed home because it was a Friday and we always get tired early.

On Saturday it was super beautiful outside. It got up to 60 degrees outside! For Minnesota in February, that is a dream come true. I needed to get outside. Fortunately I had some errands to run and that would take me outside. I met my friend early in the morning because local boutique Primp was having their warehouse sale. We went last year and found a couple good things at a great price so we definitely wanted to go again. She had to be somewhere else by noon so we went early. Lots more stuff this year but also a longer line. We decided to wait it out because, well, we drove all the way down there. We both found a couple of things so I would say it was worth it.

After shopping we split and I ran my errands. I ran over to one of my favorite coffee places, Spyhouse, where doors were open and everyone who could was outside. Seriously, it was a gorgeous day. After that I ran a few errands and visited my parents before I came home.  Then we had some friends over and D brewed while us girls talked and watched Pitch Perfect 2. Sometimes it is fun to have friends over and just completely relax and hang out. It was a good Saturday.

Sunday the weather drastically changed. It was in the 30s a snowing. Only in Minnesota does this kind of crazy weather happen. We started our day by watching our nephew's hockey game. It's fun to watch him play and watch the skill level change each year. After that we tried to do some more flooring shopping until we basically could not take it anymore. We went home to eat and relax and that ladies and gents, was my weekend.

On Saturday I took advantage of the warm temps with a sleeveless top. To be fair it is knit but sleeveless nonetheless. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and was waiting for the right time to wear it. Saturday it was. The arm holes are a bit long so I put this VS bralette on for  modesty of course. I also forgot about these Qupid booties from another local favorite, Proper + Prim, and thought they would fit perfectly with this look. I got nothing but compliments on these shoes while running around and need to work these back into regular rotation. Quick pairing with my fav skinnies and this pendant marble necklace and we have a great look. Oh and also these sunglasses. I cannot take credit for these I snapped Truelane about it and she told me where to find them. But you all should grab them. I am obsessed!

Birchbox Review + #H54F Link Ups

Friday, oh yea! This week was one of those weeks where I always felt like I was a day ahead and then disappointed when it did not happen. So really today feels like a Saturday and being at work feels terrible. Le sigh. What are ya gonna do? Just gotta make it through this day and then I have some chill weekend plans. This week was pretty busy. I had a lot of work to do and a few days with some after work activities. Tuesday was  my usual yoga class. This week two of my other friends joined so it was extra fun. I normally like to work out by myself but when in the class it is nice to have some friends. It is more motivating and I like to push myself. On Wednesday I went out to the Turf Club in St Paul see a band called Low Cut Connie with my dad. The Turf is a funky little music club with a downstairs called The Clown Lounge, which is  a divey little bar where everything has clowns on it. It's so weird and fun. Not to mention the band was freakin' awesome! One of the leads of the band plays like Jerry Lee Lewis and stands op and shimmies around. It was so fun, but Thursday I was pretty tired. Just lucky to get through the work day. Now I have the weekend to look forward to. To get updates on my week be sure to follow me on snapchat.

Ok on to the good stuff. I got my February Birchbox and did my best to try everything out before the month was over, so here goes!

I will be honest with this one. I have not really used it. For something like this to really assess it's effectiveness. This says it help detangle and creates healthier hair. I am pretty loyal to Morroccan oil so it will take a lot for me to try something else. I will keep using it and report back. Until then Moroccan Oil it is!

I was kind of excited to try this. It says apply to a dry face and activate with water. The instructions says it removes make up and impurities from the skin. I went to pour it in my hand and it is basically a watery oil. I didn't like it. It came pouring out of the bottle and was really messy. My honest opinion, there are better products out there. They have had this obsession with certain brands and this happened to be one of them. I have not been impressed with this brand and that has continued.

This I am happy to say I liked. It is a really light and almost fruity smelling perfume. I have mentioned in the past I prefer a fresher, clean scent but I can be swayed. This definitely swayed me. The downside is this scent reminds me of summer and it is February. Stupid winer ruining all my fun beauty products ::shakes fist:: I do love this though. For those of you who are lucky enough to live in warm temps, grab this for sure!

When I saw this color I literally got giddy. Candice from She's Leaning In and I text each other and could not wait to try it out. Such a beautiful, fire engine red. When I got POP's eye shadows a few boxes ago I was pleased with the color saturation. Unfortunately this did not translate. It went on really dry, meaning I had to drag it across my lips, and it went on more pink than red.  I was really disappointed. Good news is I have lots of other tried and true lipstick brands so I'm good :)

Last was a little CC cream. I do no normally use CC cream but as of late I am seeing the benefits. Seems to help make a clean canvas to add make up too. I was not impressed with this. Remember when I said Birchbox is obsessed with brands? This is another one of those brands. Another that I rarely like.  Another no-go.

Unfortunately a fairly unsuccessful box. These boxes are always the ones where I think I will cancel, but then next month's will likely be fantastic. At least I found some good perfume. That is worth it. What do you think? Have you tried any of the products? Leave me a comment below.

Canadian Tuxedo

So this weekend D and I were out shopping for something for him to wear to dinner. I found this chic chambray-esque shirt for him and he goes " I am not wearing a Canadian tuxedo." So that didn't go over well. However it did inspire this post. This is basically the dress equivalent of the Canadian tuxedo. I was shopping the other weekend with one of my favorite shopping buddies. I went into one of my favorite boutiques, Primp, and saw this on the mannequin. I bought it without even trying it on.  I love it so much and it has pockets!! Ah! who doesn't love a pocket? I paired it with this marble pedant necklace from Sisu and the best brown boots I ever bought.  Due to the length and shape you could easily belt his  as well, which I did in one shot so you can get a feel for it.  What do you think of a denim dress? Leave me a comment below.

Monday Round Up: Dinners + Decor

Happy Monday folks! This Monday I am actually feeling ok but I was a pretty fantastic weekend so let's get down to it. Oh, and there are LOTS of pictures this this time so get ready!

Friday night we originally planned to stay in, but part way through the day I got the inkling to go out. A new brewery opened up in Robbinsdale, Wicked Wort, which is both close to us and my friend's home. So we called them up and out we went. Robbinsdale has built several interesting restaurants in the last few years and this brewery just adds to the charm. Most of the new breweries are pretty small and getting a table is next to impossible. This space is quite large with ample tables. It was hard to get a table despite this because of the newness of the establishment. This place was worth the trip. Lots of beers to try and basically liked them all. Definitely at least one kind for every appetite. Some were good that I tried but more of a summer beer so my taste was not ready for. They also put goofy games on the tables and sounds like there is music on some nights. What else is really cool is there is an open space in the floor  where you can see all the brewery equipment surrounded by these psychedelic lights. We also got a short tour and D and our friend, who are really into home brewing, asked all kinds of questions. I will be going back there.

On Saturday D and I planned to go to dinner. He made a reservation last week so I was pretty excited. We hit up the gym and then did a little shopping as he mentioned he was unsure what to wear so I took advantage of this ;). I got to play dress up with him a bit, which was awesome. He mostly got things he wanted except some grey skinnies. The grey skinnies were my brain child and let me tell you, they were hot. So hot in fact I will not take a picture because that is just for me ;)

That night we went out to Butcher & The Boar. It has been open for some time but have not had the chance to go. The inside was mostly dark, heavy woods with an industrial flair and some marble tabletops. We sat at a small table where one side was a long bench with multiple tables and the other side was individual chairs. We have a very knowledgable and fun waiter which added to the experience. But the food you guys....guys....honestly one of the best places I have ever eaten. Easily top three places for me. I had a sausage with vegetables and we split caramelized broccoli and the best mac n' cheese I Have every eaten. D had the blackened ribeye. We were both drooling and basically in a food coma afterwards. Observe the photos below. We ended the night at a couple of places started with Scena Tavern, Libertine and Betty Danger's Country Club before heading home.

Scena Tavern
Sunday was furniture shopping day. On Monday we bought a couch and Saturday we did a little flooring research. So Sunday was to look for new coffee table, end tables and entertain center. Turns out that was a tall order. We have literally looked every where and found this one great coffee table, but it matches too closely with the flooring we thought we wanted. After much debate, a Chipotle, stop  we decided to commit to it and take another look at flooring. Turns out we will not get the coffee table until June. Le sigh. We could not find anything else so we did it. By the end of the ordeal we were so tired we just went home.

See? It was a good weekend. We did a lot and got some things done. What comes with that? Fashion of course? Ok so that was a lame segway but cut me some slack I am tired now.

This is the look I wore out to dinner. I was originally searching for a dress and something appropriately sexy for a date night. Remember the grey skinnies? Yea I had to look good too. The new addition to my wardrobe is this killer skirt from the Maison Jules collection at Macy's. It is the suede which is so popular right now and the snaps are real folks. Which I can attest to as sometimes it came undone. I could have bought a bigger size but was worried it would be to big.  So this was it. I bough another shirt to wear with it but when I got home changed my mind. I pulled out this trusty Target blouse and paired it with these boots. The boots was the whole reason for this look and stole the show. What do you think?

Julep Maven Review + #H54F Link Ups

Stop. Friday Time! Excuse me while I Hammer dance.

Ok done. :) It has been a bit of a long week so let's get started.

Also, I am today's featured blogger on #H54F Link up hosted by Katie, Tif, Della and Caitlin

On Monday I worked a partial day. We worked part of the day at a training but then I met up with D for furniture shopping. I know what you are thinking. You are right, we are the coolest couple. Most people with time off go do something fun or relaxing. Not us. We are looking to make a few renovations to our house in the next few months. Our upstairs furniture I have had since 2008. eek! It's time to go. It has served us well but it's time. We thankfully found a beautiful couch at HOM Furniture and now are looking for the coffee table, end tables and tv stand. After that it's on to flooring. We are adulting.

This couch, different color

On Wednesday we finally got out to see Deadpool. I know so many people that went to see and loved it. It is hard to find time to get to the movies so I try to reserve it for movies that benefit from seeing it on the big screen. I was so excited. It was really, really good. If you like superhero movies, sarcasm and violence this is your movie. This is not, I repeat not, a children's superhero movie. No kids should go to this. It is violent, crude and rude so adults only.

This winter feels like it is going on forever. February is the worst of them all. However, this weekend we are experiencing a bit of a reprieve in the form of a warm up. I need to take advantage of this. Saturday we are going out to a nice dinner so there is that. I sometimes feel that is not enough so I am open to suggestions. Today is going to be 50 degree for goodness sake!!

I am writing this so I can be more accountable. Going to the gym lately has been rough. I am tired all the time and going to the gym sounds overwhelming and impossible. I am busy a lot of the time so it's this whole process. Guys don't understand. For them it is about 1 hour 10 minutes including shower time. If I do it at the end of the day it's 1 hour 45 minutes including shower time. It's such a waste of time when so many other things are falling to the wayside. At the same time I need to stay healthy and fit. I am going to try to be better next week. I will keep you posted.

I got my second Julep Maven box right before Valentine's day. I will be honest, I was planning on skipping but forgot/could not figure out how. Happily I really liked this whole box. They did sweeten me with a bit of chocolate ;) First the nail color. I did not realize until prepping for this that the red polish is my named. Spelled my way too! You may not understand but everyone spells my name as 'Megan.' It's not. It's 'Meghan.' This polish won me over with that alone so I wore it first (pictured below) It is a gorgeous orange-red color. The second is a lighter purple which will be perfect for Spring. I think I will take the red off this week and try the purple. Last they sent a powder eyeshadow. I do not typically prefer these but I think for a striking color like gold, or gray this can work. The color wears nicely and bold without have to rub it across your skin repeatedly. The gold would be perfect for a night on the town. Overall this box was a win but I am not totally sold. There are so many other boxes out there now and for $25 a month I want more products in general. So jury is still out. What do you think?
