"Jump Up, Jump Up and Get Down"

"I came to get down, I came to get down
So get out your seats and jump around
Jump around."

House of Pain "Jump Around"

Oh House of Pain, the lyrics to this song are not as adorable as I remember when Robin Williams threw a fun filled birthday party for his son in the hit Mrs. Doubtfire. However, the jump part of this song is apt for this post. I'm going to tell you right now that I love me a jumpsuit. I think they are so fun, chic and unique. In the last few years I have seen jumpsuits go from Saturday Night Fever to Red Carpet look and I could not be happier. What is really great about them is their versatility. There are so many great casual every day jumpsuits as well the fabulous  out of the town jumpsuits. I tend to err on the side of more party time jumpsuits so that is what I am featuring today. I tried to look around to find a variety of styles, colors and prices but honestly most of them only came in black and I ain't complaining! TGIF everyone. Enjoy!

Chic Jumpsuits

Head to Toe

I am having an overreaction to all the color on the blog lately. I have worn more pink in the last month than I have in my entire life. Therefore, my inherent oppositional streak is getting kicked into high gear. Enter today's post: all black from head to toe. I cannot tell you how much I love wear all black. I feel chic, I feel New York, I basically feel like Kelly Cutrone (if you don't know her look her up because she's baddest chick ev-ah). I know some people feel weird about it but it is so natural to me. What's wrong with black? Nothing. It's slimming, chic and goes with everything. Win-win for this gal.

I decided to buy these jeans because the blue jean leggings I bought from Gap have basically not left my body. They have become and extension of my self and although that  may seem bizarre go buy yourself a pair and tell me you don't love them. I dare you.  So I thought I'd purchase them in black because the other black jeans I have are on the shorter, Fall and Spring side. I will warn you I bought longs in the black jeans when I did not in the regular blue jean. For some reason the black jeans were shorter. To give you a reference I am about 5'8" and the longs bunch up just a little around the ankle when the regulars were somewhat a "preparing for flood" type of length ;) While at the Gap I saw this great black crop top. It's so comfy and I love the longer sleeve as almost a boyfriend take on this tee shirt. I paired this with this amazing necklace I got at Primp. I love how elaborate it is and think it adds some depth to this monotone look. Lastly, I added my Sam & Libby boots from Target. I really love the clean lines of these and think it perfectly caps off the head to toe look.

Monday Round Up: Kimonos and Relaxation

Happy Monday! Well I had a really good weekend. It was the perfect blend meeting with people and relaxing. On Friday my mom came over to my house for a bit to see some new blinds we got. I was way too excited about the sillhouette blinds we got for our upstairs living room and because the apple does not fall too far from the tree my mom wanted to see them as well. After that I went to see American Sniper with my younger sister. She made it her mission this year to see all the movies nominated for a Best Picture Oscar and this was the last one she needed to see. I saw it once before with Derek but it was good and she needed someone to go with her. We went to a late movie (10:15 PM) so as much as the movie was good we were both ready for bed after that. I came home and went straight to bed.  Well, not straight to bed I am catching up on The Comeback on HBO. LOVING this show and having HBO again.

Saturday I went to the gym, ran some errands and went to a co-workers goodbye party. It was a house party where we ate some dinner and played some games. It was fun seeing co-workers outside the work place and getting to know some of them better. This is where my outfit comes in. I was thinking that because it is a house party so I wanted to be casual but also wanted to wear something fun. I bought this kimono a few weeks ago from one of the best stores on planet Earth, Primp, and having been struggling a little bit with how to style it. I think I finally figured it out last night though. I have also had this tank top from J. Crew Factory since last year when I went to Mexico but have not worn it too much. Thankfully this is where my hoarding issues come in :) I tend to hold on to clothes for a long time in hopes that at some point they will come in handy and it did. I am also really loving where my hair up this way, although it would look a little better if my hair was a bit longer, but I think it looks ok.  I know I am late to the kimono trend but better late than never.

Black and White All Over

Happy Friday er'body! Who's pumped for the weekend? This girl <---  It's been an odd week. Monday we did not have clients due to President's Day but we did have an all day training followed by a staff happy hour. In the past happy hours happen later in the week not right away so the whole week has felt disjointed. But we have arrived at Friday and I could not be more pleased. In reviewing my blogs for the week I noticed an inordinate amount of color. I took a risk on a hot pink dress, I wore red plaid and glitzy earrings. I think I have done a good job of stepping outside my comfort zone. So therefore, I say we walk it back.

hello lover
Welcome to part three of my shoes around the world extravaganza! (Ok so I am still working on the the title of this). This week I decided to focus on flats. Not just any flats mind you but they had to meet several criteria:

  1. Closed toe: It is still February and freezing!! Thinking of open toes shoes right now sends shivers up and down my spine.

  2. Unique: I try to buy shoes that are unique and I have not seen before. I LOVE shoes so I find this criteria to be particular importance. I don't need the same 10 pairs of shoes and if I am going to spend good money I want it to be interestin

  3. Monochromatic: As I previously stated I have been wearing too much color lately. It's time for a return to what I am best at.

After searching high and low these are some of my favorites.

Black and White All Over

I have to confess that I learned about the Loly in the Sky flats through Zipped blog. She is basically a fashion icon to me and what I wouldn't give to walk through her closet for 1 day. I really love their shoes. They are the epitome lady like and interesting. The others I picked because I love the silhouette and colors. I am a suck for a good loafer and pointed toe. I can't help myself. I also believe these are shoes you can dress up or dress down, which is another criteria I love in my shoes:versatility. It helps to add to the diversity and flexibility of my closet, which is a real necessity these days.

What do you think of these shoes? Would you buy any of these? Leave a comment below to tell me what you think!

Mad for Plaid

So I have this problem...it's called a budget. Since starting this blog my clothes budget has definitely grown but it is not unlimited. As a result of this sad fact of middle income-hood, I need to get creative with what I already have in my closet. Today is a reflection of that. I thought I would play with a more casual look. Pairing plaid with a tee-shirt is a little out of my wheelhouse. This is more of a hipster look than I typically wear. I could definitely see myself rockin' this look in Fall in Northeast Minneapolis at one of our local breweries. I'm not your typical hipster, well, I'm not a hipster but I like to play with the vibe sometimes. It can feel like playing dress up, which I loved as a little girl so why not continue as an adult? ;) It was also really comfortable and warm on this freezing Minnesota day. Lastly, what I love about this outfit is that it is almost entirely local retailers. Love support my Minnesota business #minnesotansdoitbetter

Monday Round Up: V-Day Edition

Good Monday! Today I am feeling happy. I had a relaxing weekend and I will be at a training all day with my co-workers instead of a regular work day so #winning. ;)

I hope you all had as good of a weekend as I did. It all started on Friday evening with my girl Jackie (The Revolving Table) having a little spa night. Jackie thought it  might be fun in preparation for our big Valentine's night out and she was right! If I am being honest, I have never done a full facial treatment before. Sure I have used facial scrubs, masks and toners but never all at once and probably not in the right order. Thankfully, and graciously, Jackie brought over a fair amount of the items and all we needed was the mask. We popped out to Target and were in awe of the lack of face masks. We grabbed some poor, male employee who was very helpful to help us locate a few. We settled on Que Bella and Red Velvet Oreos ( I FINALLY located these and it was the best night ever!!) We got home and began the process. Upon completion we were refreshed and smooth!

Saturday I spent the day prepping for dinner. I had to make a few adjustments to my dress and test a few ideas for hair and make up. I also kept my attention by watching a marathon of the Newsroom on HBO.  I have to be honest I was very nervous to wear a strappy, hot pink dress for multiple reasons. First, I rarely wear pink, let alone hot pink. Colors like black, grey and navy are in my wheelhouse. Hot pink is Barbie's wheelhouse. I decided to take a risk for Valentine's day and I think it paid off. Second, it is freezing!! Yesterday was the coldest day this week. Not only was it cold but it was windy. Two minutes outside I couldn't feel my legs. But as a life long Minnesotan I did what we all do. Complain about it and go outside anyway.  We went out to Vincent's in Minneapolis. It is a classy, French restaurant in a great old building by Orchestra Hall. I was looking forward to it as I rarely eat French food and go to fancy restaurants. We were going out with some of our friends too to enjoy the evening. I ordered the lamb shank with couscous. It was pretty good, juicy and with a great marinade. Although I enjoyed it, it was not amazing. To be fair my friends ordered the sirloin, scallops and tuna. I think they enjoyed their dinners more. Afterward, we went to grab a few drinks at nearby bars, Brit's Pub and The Local. These are some of my favorite places in downtown Minneapolis. They are casual places, but the interiors are well designed, beers are unique and food is fried :) We ended the night around midnight and headed home, well fed and well drank.

After writing that post last week I committed to this pair of Ear Crawlers from Bauble Bar. They are not as big as I had hoped , probably should have read a little closer, but they worked well for this look when all the other jewelry was delicate.

I was really unsure what to do for my makeup but then I remembered the picture I posted of Cara Delevingne on my Ear Crawler post and attempted to recreate with items I already had. What do you think? Would you wear hot pink? What did you do for Valentine's day? Leave a comment below I would love to hear from you!

Not Your Average Valentine's

We are officially 1 day away from Valentine's Day people. This is typically a polarizing holiday. Some couple's love it and swear by it, some people absolutely hate and other's claim apathy.  I don't have it but don't love it. This year is the first in nearly 10 where we are actually going out to dinner for Valentine's day, more on that next week.  For those of you willing to participate in this holiday and looking for a different way to celebrate, and what to wear, I have two suggestions for you.

A night in:

If you are anything like Derek and I, sometimes a night on the couch with wine is the best kind of date. What's better than cuddling on the couch in your favorite sweatpants (or "fatpants" as Derek and I refer to them because we can eat as much as we want) while indulging on our favorite food and drink.  So if this sounds like you grab yourself a redbox, pick up a bottle of wine and cozy in with your special someone.  Check out my selection below of comfy yet stylish knits to rock a casual V-day in fashion.

Valentine's Night In

Psst. The turban headband is from a local entrepreneur Rayna Jaye. I own three of her turbans and she's awesome! Check her out.

Vigorous Valentine:

For those of you less inclined to lay around and looking for a more active Valentine's day I have some items for you as well. The local news did a piece on finding love at the gym. An active date can be a great way to get to know someone's character, I know my true nature to complain about tough work is always revealed when Derek and I work out together. It is also a fun way to bond and an excuse to get close to one another. Maybe you can try rock climbing, a spin class or just weight train together. Get your heart racin' this Valentine's for reasons besides how cute your sweetheart looks. I picked the most unique, feminine, but strong looks I could find. Working out in cute clothes is always more fun :)

Vigorous Valentine

What are your plans this Valentine's Day? Are you going somewhere? Staying in? Just hanging with friends? What do you think of the pieces I picked? I'd love to hear your plans and most importantly your outfits. <3

It's no secret I love jewelry and accessories. I believe I have said before on this blog that I would wear a ring on every finger if I am able. This jewelry trend demonstrated beautifully by the impossibly gorgeous Cara Delevingne is ear cuff or sometimes referred to as the ear crawler. I came across this trend several months ago while searching online during a boring evening. In my humble opinion this is one of the most interesting jewelry trends of late. There are so many different styles that range from casual to red carpet. The ones demonstrated by Cara Delevingne are basically statement necklaces for your ears. All encompassing, can't take your eyes off of, takes up the entire space statement. Like my necklaces there is also a time and place for delicate, every day ear crawler. This trend caught my eye again in thinking about my overall look for Valentine's day (check back to my blog about V- Day looks to guess which one I picked). I decided to pick out a few of my favorites for you guys to go with any look.

Dainty Darlings

Magnificent Metals

Big bedazzlers

I decided these would be best broken up into three categories. Each type has it's place and purpose and I did not want the flash to be overwhelming ;) There is such a variety of types beyond what I represented. I encourage you to find your favorites and share them. I would love to hear what you think about this trend? Would you wear it? Leave a comment below and let me know.

Winter Crop- Monday Round-Up

Happy Monday! Well...it's Monday anyway. Hope you had a great weekend. I had a pretty good weekend myself. Unfortunately I did not take too many pictures, but there is a fun outfit details coming up!

On Friday we went out to celebrate my friend's 30th birthday party. I don't know about you, but Fridays are rough for me. I am tired from the long day and week and prefer to stay in. However this was one of my good friends and a big birthday so off we went. We started out at Cowboy Jack's in downtown Minneapolis. I am not a huge cowboy bar fan, I really do not like country music and the like but it was a pretty decent bar. It was huge inside and had one of those mechanical bulls in the middle of the room. My friend reserved a space on the mezzanine level which came complete with a pool table, arcade games, dart board and a few tables. It overlooked the entire bar so it felt like we were still part of the bar scene. We spent a good amount of time there before my friend wanted to go to The Saloon, a local gay night club. I have been here before and was not a huge fan, but he likes it and it was his birthday so off we went. We actually had a good time spending the rest of the evening dancing the night away. A major high light of the evening was our friend who is in the Air Force surprised everyone by showing up. It was great to see him because he gets so few trips home.

[caption id="attachment_495" align="aligncenter" width="300"]the B The Birthday Boy![/caption]

On Saturday we slept in. We were tired from being ABBA style dancing queens the nigh before. That night we had a few friends over that could not make it the night before to hang out with our friend from the Air Force. It was a nice quiet night in with our friends talking and playing games. Sunday was the laziest day of the weekend by far. I had to drive my parents to the airport at 5:00 AM so my sleep was terribly interrupted. We spent the remainder of the day watching a GOT (that's Game of Thrones) marathon. This week we switched cable providers and got free HBO for 2 years! This girl is happy :) If my blog posts reduce this is the sole reason why.  How was your weekend? Do anything fun and exciting? Leave a comment below.

The bottom half of this outfit has been featured in multiple previous posts. I love this skit because it is so comfortable and versatile. I found this crop top at Primp Boutique this last week. I bought one size up because I have a long torso and wanted more of it covered. I struggled with it all night out of self consciousness but I really did love the look.

Shoe Expose Part Deux: Ankle Boots

This blog is brought to you by Polyvore. This is the next part of the shoes-round-the-world blogging I intend to do. Last time I presented impossibly beautiful shoes. Both impossible due to the incredible design and prices. Today I am trying to be a bit more reasonable for the average gal. I am also presenting my favorite trend this winter: casual ankle booties. If you follow my blog regularly my OOTD's are littered with booties of all shapes and sizes. I am loving them this year for many reasons. One and the most important is that the heels this year are not stiletto so I can wear them to work. It makes them more sturdy and comfortable to wear all day long. Secondly they transition well form day to night. They go well with jeans and a tee shirt or cute dress or skirt. When I hit up an after work happy hour I can blend well in a more upscale restaurant or a neighborhood bar. Lastly, I have a love affair going with the Bordeaux color. If you have not noticed already I tend to favor pieces that are flexible. Bordeaux is the perfect color to match either a black or brown palette.  Below are a few favorites I decided that all y'all needed to see.

Ankle Boots

I have selected two pairs of Sam Edelman boots, who I learned about reading the Zipped blog. Doing some of my own research it's a great brand. Their design is edgy enough to be different, but mainstream enough you can wear them without standing out uncomfortably. I do not currently own a pair of Sam Edelman shoes but hoping one day :)  The Aldo shoes I have been drooling over since they came out. I love the more workboot style of these matched with the color. Thankfully these are on sale now so check 'em out! Lastly, if you are a regular follower of my blog you will recognize the Target boots. These have been a staple in my closet recently. They just seem to go with everything/I am buying clothes to match these. I can't get enough so if you can find them make them your own.

What do you think of these ankle boots? Do you have any favorites? Share them below I would love to hear about them.

Cowl Neck Sleek

Winter has returned to Minneapolis. We got lucky and have had a few unseasonably warm days in January but it's back to the old grind. In honor (ugh) of the return of the cold I am wearing one of my favorite old sweaters. I bought this sweater several years ago and Express and wear it religious. It is a serious staple of my closet not only because it is stylish but because it is dang comfortable. I used to pair it with skinny jeans but after finding these ponte pants from J.Crew factory it's a done deal. Finish it off with some knee high boots, a must for winter, and we have ourselves a look. Not mention this whole outfit is black and grey. Best.colors.eva. Enjoy!

Tuesday Round Up

I must apologize again not having my blog up yesterday. I had a busy weekend and ran out of up time. So to make up for it this is a combination round up OOTD post ::cue applause:: At least I hope you are applauding otherwise it's ::crickets::

On Saturday night I went out with my friend Jackie (of The Revolving Table) for a little girls night. Our husbands were out for boys night so we decided to match them. I decided to go a little dressed up/casual. I bought a new pair of shoes to wear with my new Valentine's dress and thought tonight would be perfect to debut them/break them in. Last thing I want to find out is my shoes give terrible blisters when I am all dressed up in a pretty dress. I loved my look because A) I am obsessed with this tee shirt and B) Any day you can wear a blazer is a good day.

1) Blazer :Topshop, old (similar, similar)
2) Tee shirt- Banana Republic, $39.50

3) Jeans: Gap Legging Jeans, $69.50

4) Shoes: Vince Camuto from DSW, I just bought these this week so they might be in store but not on the website. (similar)

5) Necklaces: H & M (similar)

6) Bracelets and Ring, Primp

7) Watch: Marc Jacobs, $175

We started out at Betty Danger's Country Club, which is a new bar in Northeast Minneapolis. I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. It was the place with the Ferris Wheel. I was not exactly sure what to expect. When you walk in you start out in the garden room. It is all pink and green and meant to look like you are outside. The hostess stand is in the library.  This room is a bit darker. Walls are covered in what looks like a more dark gold and green Victorian wall paper. There is a long bar in one area and more seating in another. Glass garage doors line the bar and garden room, presumably they open up in the summer. They open up to a cement patio where the ferris wheel is lit and ready for passengers this spring. The menus are books. At first I thought they were old books they found to stick the food menus inside, but not the case. They appear to be books they commissioned with manners and etiquette and background on Betty's family.

[caption id="attachment_455" align="aligncenter" width="300"]IMG_1442 The patio[/caption]

Jackie and I ordered a couple of drinks and two appetizers. We ordered  chips and salsa and mexi rolls. Both were spicy and delicious. We agreed we would love to come back in the summer to try a ride of the Ferris Wheel.

Then we were on the main event, a night at the Acme Comedy club. The headliner was Jackie Kashian. She was really hilarious and super fast talker. She  made a couple of jokes at some politicians expense and she won me over after that. I have not been to Acme comedy club in years and it was great to be back. If you are not from the area, it is a very well known club. A lot of time famous comedians, like Robin Williams, will come here to practice material. It is a $18 for a show and typically you get three comedians. One as the MC, one opener and the headliner. Not a bad deal.

[caption id="attachment_453" align="aligncenter" width="400"]IMG_1444 View of the acme comedy club[/caption]

Sunday we had some friends over for the Superbowl. We had quite the spread from pizza to wings to some spicy nacho dip. Our friends love food and thanks to that no one went hungry. Unfortunately I wanted the Seahawks to win and it did not pan out for me. As I write this it is Monday evening and I am back to being a Vikings fan despite  my better judgement. Although my favorite disappointment team, the Twins, should be starting their Spring training soon and I have whole other sports season to feel the sting of 100 losses. Le sigh.
