Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! I turned off from social media for a little bit to enjoy a long weekend away. The weather was gorgeous and hot so perfect for a little getaway. It was also a great opportunity to rock some of my casual pieces (details below!)

Our weekend began on Friday at noon. We planned to go up north to my husband's family cabin with some of our best friends. The cabin is a solid 4-hour drive and we wanted to get a jump on it. We dropped Reese off with my parents and headed north. The cabin is almost in Canada and out in the woods of the Iron Range in Minnesota. It's truly gorgeous how green and full it can be up there. We all managed to arrive at the same time about 5:00. We quickly unloaded to head out on the boat for some fishing. We drove to a small lake nearby and some of us fished, some of us indulged in beverages and some of us did both. We stayed out until it started to get dark. The lake was near a small resort and we had dinner and a few drinks. We bought, what we didn't realize, was about 100 songs on the jukebox so we played some of our favorites, and some we use to tease each other for old jokes. Great first night!

Saturday was the bigger day. We got up early and drove out to a bigger chain of lakes we also go to. It starts at the "End of the Road" because literally, the lake borders Canada. It's kind of trippy sometimes. We planned to head out to Kettle Falls, an old resort brought about by the Voyagaire traders. We love going there because it has so much history and, as in the name, are on some beautiful falls. We had a little lunch, walked out to the falls before loading back up. We spent the rest of the day cruising around the lake and swimming at one of the natural beaches on the lake. Thankfully it was a really hot day so swimming felt refreshing. We also came well prepared with food and drink and just took our time enjoying the day!  Unfortunately, we also had a bit of boat trouble so it delayed our getting back to the cabin. We met a nice gentleman who truly saved us from basically dismantling our motor and helped us out so much! Nice to see kind strangers.  We eventually got back to the cabin and talked and laughed until bedtime.

Sunday we were heading home. We woke up and had breakfast, cleaned up and headed out. Ready to call what was a great weekend with our friends. About 20 minutes into our drive home our tire blew on our boat trailer. Ugh! Thankfully we had a spare and D knows how to change a tire. However, his jack wasn't working well and in another stroke of luck our friends pulled up behind us. They had a better jack and helped us get it fixed. Thankfully we got home safely at that, but man quite a bit of difficulty with our boat this weekend. I think we learned to keep some more spare items and tools nearby in the future.

Overall, we had a fabulous weekend though. Can't ask for much more than a weekend away with gorgeous weather and great company!

Traveling by car is always a bit of a challenge. I need to dress comfortably for the car, but be prepared to be warm or cold and may need to head into a gas station. Over the years I have learned that leggings get the job done. But you need the kind that are thick. I bought these Spanx leggings a while ago and am obsessed! I got on the Spanx train after having Reese, because duh! I mean who doesn't like to just feel secure. They are high waisted so no unflattering lines or worries that you are being exposed. I typically pair these with a great tee and find it a great opportunity to sport a graphic tee to edge it out. A tee is great because if it's warm and it's a long tee like this one, it's just enough. But you can also layer these really well. I love the look of a denim jacket. I think it helps pull the whole look together. It's casual and easy, but does feel like you put some thought into it and did just roll out of bed ;) I am also so glad that sneakers have been made cool again. I know Vans have been doing this for some time, but for those of us who can't pull that look off, there are so many other options now. I bought these at Target a while ago but there are great sneakers everywhere you look. This is my road trip uniform right now!
