Happy Friday! Hope you all had a great week! Around here has been pretty good lately. The weather has been unseasonably warm, which I am definitely not complaining about. Especially because my stomach has gotten too big to close my coat. Feels like Spring is around the corner although I don't want to get my hopes up. It is still February in Minnesota and things can turn on a dime.

Life around here continues to be slow as we wait for the baby's arrival. Just this past week I got the second to last piece of the nursery. The only thing missing is one art piece to put behind the crib that will contain her name, birthday, weight, etc... I debated waiting to show you all until that was here but then again I thought it best to show you the room before it gets all messy.

Picking nursery furniture was incredibly difficult. We started the process before we learned the gender, however I knew I wanted to be neutral regardless. We settled on the light green and beige as it would work for a boy or a girl. Also thought it would translate well from a baby room to a young child's room. I hate painting and did not want to paint over and over again.

The dresser was probably the most difficult item. One big restraint we had was the size of the room.  It was pretty small so finding furniture we both liked and would fit was a challenge. This dresser and the rocking chair took the longest to decide. I saw this dresser at Target but it was sold out. I love the distressed treatment of the wood and legit could not find a single other dresser I liked. For a while I thought we would just go without. One day when I was searching it showed up as in stock and we snagged it. The killer? It's everywhere now. It's on display at every Target I have been to for a month and now it has this more interesting side paneling. Le sigh. But I do love that it has the changing table on top and you can remove it when baby is older and no longer needs it.

Pictures also took a bit of time. I knew I wanted some items from Minted because they have great child appropriate wall art but aren't so cutesy. I really can't deal with the cutesy stuff. I also prefer a more desaturated look and so many of kids items are very saturated. Another thing I wanted, especially when we found out we were having a girl, was positive messaging. For boys a lot of the messaging is about being brave, strong and adventurous. Girls get things like "hey girl" and "so cute." Really? Do better. The picture on the left is the goddess Diana, goddess of the hunt and women. I think the middle is self-explanatory and the tiger is mostly because it's cute. It was really important to me that she had positive messaging in her room that spoke more to characteristics than appearance. This is something I hope we can keep up as she grows.

The next step was the crib. During a big baby sale at Target this summer we selected this grey crib. I knew we wanted grey because, well, it is basically D and I's favorite color to decorate with. I was hoping for something more distressed but at at the time we could not find anything like that. I also did not want to spend a million dollars on a crib. We wanted quality without breaking the bank. Target would soon become our go-to place for nursery items.

The chair here was a struggle as well. Mainly due to limited space. I knew I wanted an upholstered chair, as wooden rocking chairs just don't seem comfortable for me. Problem is upholstered rockers or gliders are pretty wide. Eventually we settled on this one. It's a little short for D to sit in, but at the same time it is right on the level for when our pups come up. I am hoping to make them feel included in the process to avoid jealousy. This way when we are sitting in the chair they can feel a part of it. I also would be remiss if I did not mention the pillow. This is Rifle Paper Co. fabric (I'm dying) and the lovely Candice (She's Leaning in) constructed it for me. There is also a quilt coming in this pattern from her as well. The blanket on the crib is an afghan from my grandmother. She makes one for every family member so this is really special to me.

Note: the picture behind the crib is not the real picture. Once she is born I have a plan for that but the frame is up to hold the place.

The stickers on the wall are from the Nate Berkus line at Target. I mostly thought these were a whimsical touch. The shelf was a cheap Home Depot purchase that D cut to fit and we spray painted the metal so it was gold not silver. We did not have room for a full bookshelf so we figured this would suffice for now.

One note: the item on the left is the laundry basket. I love this for two reasons: 1) the grey color  and 2) the flat top surface which allows us to make it a double use next to the changing table.

The very last touch was this wall clock. I really wanted a clock in the room. It stresses me out not to know the time and I figured this gold with the white numbers was a perfect match.

(Also note: I apologize for the quality of some of these photos, good light in this room is hard to come by).
