I have had a funny relationship with pearls. As a child of the 80s I have really dated connotations of traditional, old pearl necklaces. I have a tendency to make associations and it takes me a minute to get over them. So when the pearl sweater trend kicked in I was slow to catch on.

I started changing my mind on pearls a couple of years ago when I was in Fiji and they had these beautiful black pearls. Then I got these cool earrings that made me think that, 'yea, pearls can be edgy." Enter this sweater. Again one of my favorite local boutiques Proper + Prim. I picked it up when I was there to get the jumpsuit a couple of weeks ago. For me, I loved the pearl details but I also loved that it wasn't overdone. I have seen sweaters that are just covered in pearls and that's just too much for me. I love how simple this is, just enough pearls to be on trend without going overboard. I also think the black with the contrasting pearls are so chic. I haven't seen many pearl sweaters in black so I liked the uniqueness of it too. This is another sweater too with a balloon sleeve that is very on trend right now and I think creates a flattering silhouette.

I think this sweater you could totally dress up with a skirt or dress pants for work. Actually, for Christmas, I paired this with some jacquard pants. I wanted to share a more casual way to wear this. This sweater in particular is a little cropped so the high waisted pant is perfect for this. I also think this helps balance out the balloon sleeve for a sleek silhouette. I kept the shoes simple with my all-time favorite mules. I feel so chic in this and am ready to go out and meet a friend at a cool coffee house.
